Handmade Noodles at Chinese Northern Cuisine - Dixon House Food Court
A quick visit to an old favourite: Chinese Northern Cuisine in Dixon House Court.
One of our favourite Chinatown food court stalls is "Chinese Northern Cuisine" in the Dixon House Food Court.
My favourite is the #2 on the menu board: Handmade Noodles with Cumin Lamb, $8. The noodles really are handmade, you can watch the old bloke make them in the stall. The noodles are thick with just the right amount of chew and just enough cumin flavoured lamb pieces to give the dish a subtle spicy kick. Add some chili paste and vinegar, vinegar is essential. I've had this dish here a few times, sometimes it's oilier than others but tonight it's pretty much perfect. Another favourite here is the cumin lamb burger: chopped lamb cooked in plenty of cumin served in a Chinese bun, $4.20 and delicious.
Dixon House Food Court: timber veneer fittings with mirrored ceilings, like a ski chalet built in the cocaine tooting 1970's, classy with a capital K, love it. Dixon Street Food Court is in the basement, corner of Dixon Street and Little Hay Street, Chinatown.
Bright lights big city against a pitch black winter sky, it's quite striking. I love being a tourist in my own city.
